Addiction Therapy
Subscribe to my RSS feed The field of addiction therapy is extremely wide, ranging from medical to psychological to complementary (also called alternative) therapy. Each type of addiction therapy deals with a different aspect of addiction. As someone who works with people who have addictions of all types, from alcohol to drugs (legal and illegal) to sex to workaholic, I look for the type of therapy or therapies that work on the structural aspect of all addictions. I find it more useful to use addiction-therapy(s) that have the tendency to work successfully regardless of the addiction. An interesting side effect is, these tools that are successful on addictions can be used for other areas also, such as relationships, money, and happiness, but that is another subject. From Dictionary.com. . . ther•a•py (th r -p ) n. - The treatment of illness or disability.
- Psychotherapy.
- A healing power or quality.
Therapeutic treatment: as a: remedial treatment of mental or bodily disorder — b: an agency (as treatment) designed or serving to bring about rehabilitation or social adjustment
(Medicine) the act of caring for someone (as by medication or remedial training etc.); "the quarterback is undergoing treatment for a knee injury"; "he tried every treatment the doctors suggested"; "heat therapy gave the best relief". PRACTICAL DEFINITION: An addiction therapy from my point of view is any treatment that contributes to the removal of the addiction or the symptoms of the addiction (sometimes referred to as remission). The fields of Energy Psychology and Energy Medicine have been providing some exciting and interesting results when it comes to addictions and addictions-therapy. In every day terms the concept is; what holds an addiction in place is energy. Even though the field of Energy Therapy is still on the ground floor, much of the results are astonishing - where other therapies failed, these Energy Techniques worked. There is speculation that this energy is created by what we think, which connects to a body sensation (emotions), and it is held in our bodies. Regardless of whether this is true or not, one of the most promising addictions-therapy is using the energy model to help people recover from addictions. Here are just a few of the addictions-therapy that use the energy model: Simple Energy Psychology therapies like: - PEAT - Primordial Energy Activation and Transcendence
- EFT - Emotional Freedom Techniques
- TFT - Thought Field Therapy
- TAT - Tappas Acupuncture Techniques
- ET - Emotrance
